On Wednesday December 16, 2015, a Christmas celebration was held at the Salem United Methodist Church in Harlem. Karen Zuckerman, Director of Volunteer and Corporate Engagement at AHRC New York City, connected with the Director of Youth Ministries at the church, Ronald Isler, Sr. Together they launched a special holiday event.
The festivities were open to the community and had close to 200 people in attendance. Three AHRC NYC Adult Day Service Programs, Fisher Center, Bush Terminal, and the Wendy M. Siegel Center, were involved in making beautiful Christmas centerpieces and performing holiday songs. A theater group from the Fisher program wrote and acted in a short skit. Several residents from AHRC NYC’s Dickson-Goodman Residence attended and enjoyed the festivities. The event was full of joy and Christmas spirit.
The coming year will feature monthly volunteering and performance opportunities for people receiving supports through AHRC NYC’s Adult Day Services programs, as they continue to assist the church in its support of the local community. AHRC NYC’s Recreational Services will create joint programming for people who attend the program’s Super Saturdays program as well as the church community.
We are proud to celebrate these performers and volunteers, as well as the staff members who work to facilitate great community partnerships.
