On October 5th, Salem United Methodist Church welcomed the Harlem community for a voter registration drive, designed to help residents prepare for upcoming elections. The event was coordinated by Ron Taylor, Salem’s IT & Media Manager, with support from his fraternity brothers of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship Incorporated.
Together with their sister organization, Swing Phi Swing Social Fellowship Incorporated, the brothers distributed paper voter registration forms along the sidewalks as well as assisting residents in registering online. For those who needed to update their voter registration information, the team provided guidance to ensure their records were accurate and up-to-date. They also helped attendees look up their designated polling sites, offering vital information to anyone unsure of where to vote on election day.
The event took place downstairs in Cullen Hall, with laptops for online registration generously donated by Veronica’s Way 501(c)(3). Salem has worked closely with Veronica’s Way on several projects, including building computer labs in Grenada (2022) and Ghana (2023). Next year, Veronica’s Way will continue its mission by expanding into Costa Rica, supporting computer literacy in underserved communities throughout the African diaspora.
This voter registration drive demonstrated Salem’s deep commitment to civic engagement and service. Thanks to the combined efforts of Groove Phi Groove, Swing Phi Swing, and Veronica’s Way, many Harlem residents are now equipped to make their voices heard—and to participate in the democratic process with confidence.
